30 Nov How I was inspired by an Icon…Another outrageous opportunity
In 1999 my friend Lenora Gates and I attended a Vancouver networking conference with the outrageous opportunity to have lunch with one of the keynote speakers. That speaker was none other than feminist icon, Gloria Steinem. What an incredible opportunity for us. During the lunch, Gloria challenged us women to do something outside our comfort zone, something outrageous that day – and every day of our life! On the drive home, Lenora said to me, “Okay, I’m in! Let’s start this public company and help finance a billion dollar opportunity”. In that instant, EVEolution Ventures was born. The name of our company was also inspired from that event, as author and futurist Faith Popcorn had shared about her new book, EVEolution, The Eight Truths of Marketing to Women.
Fast forward 17 years later and I’m happy to be involved and champion the upcoming PowHERhouse Media event on January 25th in Vancouver, with the screening of Dream, Girl. Supporting women in achieving their career and life goals is a significant passion of mine, so it was a natural fit to fund the screening of the documentary film Dream, Girl for my friend Charlene Sanjenko and her PowHER TV launch party.
This is an event you need to be in the centre of. Also, think about bringing a young girl in your life to this event – help inspire them to dream about creating a venture of their own some day. Together we can influence change and improve lives!
